MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar receives 2015 Silver Edison Award

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (May 1, 2015) - Our company’s MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radar won a 2015 Silver Edison Award for innovation on April 23. 2015 during an awards ceremony in New York City.

Rockwell Collins received the Silver Award in the Transportation category for an innovation that provides unprecedented atmospheric threat assessment capabilities for air transport aircraft.

“We were up against some very tough competition, so receiving national recognition — even at a silver level — means a great deal,” said Fersdahl, who has been a member of the weather radar team since joining our company 10 years ago. “There were so many innovative products represented at the ceremony from every industry you can imagine. It’s quite an impressive honor.”

Tim O’Toole, principal engineering manager in Surveillance Radar Systems at our facility in Melbourne, Florida, agreed. In addition to putting forth a tremendous amount of effort to ensure the product reached fruition, team members also overcame the numerous challenges that oftentimes accompany the development and production of new, innovative products.

According to Mark Fersdahl, a senior systems engineer in Advanced Radar Applications in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, receiving the Silver Award is a tremendous honor. He said it validates the hard work, dedication and collaboration it took from teams in Cedar Rapids and Melbourne, Florida, to make this product become a reality.

“MultiScan ThreatTrack truly is a difference maker and our employees should be very proud of that,” said O’Toole, who joined our company 15 years ago and has been working with weather radar for the past four years. “This innovative technology helps pilots avoid disruptive weather threats, provides significant cost and efficiency benefits to airlines, and enhances passenger safety. The ballot of nominees was judged by a panel of more than 3,000 professionals from the fields of product development, design, engineering, science, marketing and education.
