Rockwell Collins' dome solutions are designed to meet different environmental and capability requirements, with versions ranging
from 4ft-radius containerized configurations to 12ft-radius (or larger) systems incorporating out-the-window HUD and target
projectors. Mini-domes are generally considered to have radii between 4ft (1.22m) and 8ft (2.44m).
A mini-dome can provide an effective compromise between cost, facility requirements, performance, and projector placement
considerations. The self-supporting dome will provide a smooth, continuous viewing surface for the pilot's out-the-window
scene.
The relatively small radius, combined with the compact projection system design, enables the display system to be erected
and operated in facilities with restricted room size. Installation of the dome requires a floor area only the size of the
completed system footprint, and it will break down into small sections to facilitate transportation and to meet potentially
demanding building access specifications.
