Rockwell Collins has been chosen to participate in SAAB Aerosystems' Gripen Demonstrator program. This program includes the development of a new Gripen Flight Test Platform and Gripen Avionics Rig. It will lead to the next generation of the Gripen fighter aircraft that features increased range, thrust and payload, new landing gear, additional weapon capability, the latest discrete avionics structure and sensors. Other demonstrator partners include General Electric, Honeywell, Martin-Baker, Terma, APPH and Thales Norway. Currently, the SAAB team is undertaking the upgrade of the Swedish Air Force's Gripen A/B aircraft to the Gripen C/D standard.

Rockwell Collins is providing flight management computers, including switching, data transfer units and video processing capabilities for the Gripen program. We are also supplying new intelligent 6 x 8-in. color active matrix liquid crystal Head Down Displays (HDD), as well as  the existing Rockwell Collins Head Up Display (HUD). Additionally, operational Gripen aircraft have our Very High Frequency Omni Ranging/Instrument Landing System (VOR/ILS) and TACAN receivers. Data Link Solutions (DLS), the joint venture between Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems, is already supplying the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminal (LVT) for the Swedish Air Force's Gripen C/D versions.
