Commercial Aircraft Simulator HUD

This head up display was designed for use in a two-seat, commercial aviation simulator. The image display uses a high-resolution, solid-state XGA LCD, 1024 x 768 pixels and accepts Silicon Graphics video imagery. This imagery is collimated using Rockwell Collins' compact VIM optics. Power is supplied to the HUD via 110-volt AC wall power and consumes approximately 20 watts.
The display module is mounted on top of the simulated cabin, in front of the pilot, where it is out of the way of the cockpit instruments and windscreen. A special mechanism was designed to allow the combiner assembly to be retracted and out of the way when not in use.
