Rotary wing platform

Problem: A helicopter platform needed an affordable solution to integrate both VMF and Link 16 messaging. The customer mandated the use of CLIP for the message processing.

The solution: OpenEdge

Application Services: OpenEdge is utilized to integrate the Link-16 and VMF output from CLIP for Common Tactical Operational Picture, Free Text Collaboration and Mission Assignments. In addition, OpenEdge will be utilized to interface with the software components in the mission system.

Presentation services: OpenEdge provides an ASN.1 output to the mission software responsible for presenting the information on Tactical Multi-Function Displays and CDUs.

Data link services: OpenEdge interfaces with CLIP. CLIP will provide the interface and message processing for VMF (via LOS ARC-210) and Link-16 (via MIDS).

Processing: OpenEdge is hosted on a processor card in a NCO processor – the IPC-8310 from Rockwell Collins.
