Data Link Solutions awarded $7.6 million to provide MIDS terminals
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 05, 2004) - Data Link Solutions has been awarded a $7.6 million delivery order to provide 32 Multifunctional Information Distribution
System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminals to the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) in San Diego, California.
The MIDS terminals provide secure, high capacity, jam resistant voice and data communications capabilities for U.S. and allied
forces. These terminals will be the first installed on several U.S. aircraft, including the U.S. Navy’s P-3 and the U.S.
Air Force’s F-22 and B-1 platforms. In addition, for the first time in the U.S., Data Link Solutions will be delivering
ground terminals for the Common Aviation Command and Control System referred to as the Raider Program being conducted by the
U.S. Navy at their China Lake facility. Further, Data Link Solutions is delivering terminals for the U.S. Air Force F-16
to assist in faster implementation of Link-16.
The award selection criteria were based on meeting the delivery requirements at the lowest price. This competitive order
for an additional 32 terminals was awarded to DLS as part of an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract awarded in
January 2000 and brings the total number of terminals ordered to more than 600. In addition, DLS has delivered over 400 MIDS
terminals to various domestic and international customers.
Link 16 provides real-time, jam resistant secure transfer of combat data, voice and relative navigation information between
widely dispersed battle elements. Participants gain situational awareness by exchanging digital data over a common communication
link that is continuously and automatically updated in real time, reducing the chance of fratricide, duplicate assignments
or missed targets. Each participant in the communication link is able to electronically see the battle space, including assigned
targets or threats.
Data Link Solutions MIDS terminals were the first MIDS production terminals to be certified for use and the first to be deployed
in operational service on missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. More than 14 nations have installed/selected Data Link Solutions
Link 16 terminals on 19 platforms.
