Rockwell Collins awarded $20 million to provide dual HUD system for U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps C-130J aircraft

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 29, 2003) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE:COL), a world leader in aircraft head-up guidance systems, has been awarded a $20 million contract by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company to provide dual head-up display (HUD) systems for the C-130J multi-year procurement.

Rockwell Collins will provide its Flight Dynamics HGS®-3000 head-up guidance system for 60 C-130J aircraft allocated for use by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps. Currently this system is the only dual HUD system certified by the FAA as the primary flight display. The C-130J multi-year procurement will extend from 2004 through 2009, and is designed to offer significant cost savings over the life of the program.

The Flight Dynamics HGS offers important safety and situational awareness benefits to the flight crew. Through the HGS holographic combiner, the pilot views critical flight information at optical infinity. Aircraft flight path and acceleration, derived from the inertial reference system, appear as overlaying the outside real-world view in a true one-for-one relationship, enhancing situational awareness, improving energy management, approach stability and touchdown precision.

The C-130J is a tactical transport aircraft, and the HGS-3000 system provides a variety of tactical displays to meet the demanding mission requirements of the Air Force and Marines, including low level flight, para-drops and aerial refueling.

Rockwell Collins' patented HGS technology is certified and operating on military transport aircraft, business, regional and commercial airlines. With 1,700 systems delivered, the HGS has logged over 12 million flight hours of revenue service.
