Boeing selects Rockwell Collins to complete transceiver design for U.S. Armys JTRS Cluster 1 program

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 06, 2003) - Boeing (NYSE: BA) has selected Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) to complete the Universal Transceiver design for the Joint Tactical Radio System Cluster 1 program.

"The evaluations completed by Boeing and the Army demonstrate that Rockwell Collins' transceiver design provides the best value solution to meet Cluster 1 requirements and schedule."

The Cluster 1 Universal Transceiver is a key component in the JTRS compliant, software-defined radio system. The system operates between 2 MHz and 2 GHz and is capable of operating all JTRS waveforms including the new Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW) currently being developed for the Cluster 1 program.

The JTRS is a family of software programmable radios that will provide the armed forces with voice, data and video capability. The state-of-the-art radios are based on a common Software Communication Architecture (SCA) to ensure interoperability with existing systems and simplify future technology upgrades.

The Department of Defense sponsors the JTRS program, the joint service standard for all new tactical communications systems, and is responsible for defining JTRS hardware and software configurations. JTRS will be awarded in multiple clusters that will be integrated onto selected maritime airborne, fixed-station, ground mobile, manpack, hand-held and space platforms.

Rockwell Collins anticipates more than $2 billion in contracts over the life of the program.
