Rockwell Collins to design headgear for U.S. Army's objective force warrior program

CARLSBAD, Calif. (July 22, 2003) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL), a leader in advanced display technology, has been selected by General Dynamics Eagle Enterprise as a lead subcontractor for headgear design for Phase II of the U.S. Army's Objective Force Warrior (OFW) Advanced Technology Demonstration Program. The work will be performed by Kaiser Electro-Optics (KEO), a Rockwell Collins company.

Kaiser Electro-Optics was a subcontractor for technical support efforts on the General Dynamics Eagle Enterprise team during Phase I of the OFW program.

"KEO has more than 20 years of experience in display technology design, sensors and human factors for head worn displays," said Bill Maffucci, Director of Displays at KEO. "We are leveraging our position as the head mounted display provider for Land Warrior and Objective Force Warrior to further enable the military's need for enhanced situational awareness."

The OFW program is designed to provide the core network-centric soldier systems that are being deployed to all dismounted soldiers by 2010. The Army's vision for the Objective Force Warrior is a highly lethal, survivable, networked soldier within a small combat team operating across a spectrum of future Army and joint service operations. The soldier will be equipped with self-protecting gear, a range of lethal weapons, and will be completely integrated into the fire support and C4ISR components of the Objective Force. The OFW system will provide complete situational awareness, fully integrating the individual soldier into joint and combined arms operations. The Objective Force Warrior will use assets such as robotic transporters, networked sensor fields and unmanned air vehicles.

Rockwell Collins is an industry leading provider of vision system solutions for the defense and aerospace industry. Its Kaiser Electro-Optics business designs and manufactures a wide range of optical products for technically demanding applications in medicine, aerospace and defense.
