Rockwell Collins Venue™ Cabin System wins International Design Awards
Geneva, SWITZERLAND (May 11, 2009) - Rockwell Collins' Venue™ High-Definition (HD) Cabin Management System was recently awarded the Red Dot Design Award and the
Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Northwest Design Invitational (NWDI) awards for high-quality design. The announcements
were made today at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE).
"We are honored to be recognized for the intuitive design of our Venue HD Cabin Management System," said Tommy Dodson, vice
president and general manager for Cabin Systems at Rockwell Collins. "Through smart innovation, we've worked hard to identify
and translate passengers' needs into the perfect mix of content and entertainment, flexibility and value, innovation and reliability
in our system. This award supports our work to ensure Venue is not only technologically advanced but aesthetically refined
and designed to respond as passengers' needs evolve."
Rockwell Collins worked with Teague, a Seattle-based industrial design consultancy, to develop Venue's intuitive user interface
including OLED switch panels that feature programmable soft buttons and an intuitive, icon based user interface, iPod and
iPhone integration solutions that allow passengers to plug their personal iPod device into the cabin management system and
distributed through the cabin, and remote control at the seat through a virtual iPod menu.
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions worldwide. Images of Venue will be on
display, with the other award-winning products, from June 30 to July 26 at the Red Dot Design Museum on the premises of the
