Rockwell Collins to provide Helmet Mounted Displays for Land Warrior program
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (January 13, 2009) - Rockwell Collins has been selected by General Dynamics C4 Systems to provide approximately 1,500 Helmet Mounted Displays (HMD)
for the U.S. Army's Land Warrior integrated fighting system. The contract calls for Rockwell Collins to provide its ProView™
SO35-A system for the program.
The Rockwell Collins ProView SO35-A system features full-color Super Video Graphics Array resolution with a 35-degree diagonal
field of view. The S035-A system incorporates Rockwell Collins' proprietary electro-optical technology in an extremely low
power and compact package.
The Land Warrior system has become a critical tool enabling leaders to more effectively and efficiently communicate down to
the team level and includes a GPS sensor, radio, HMD and a portable computer connecting team leaders to the Army's network
and databases.
"We're proud to be able to provide our HMD technology to this important system for the soldier," said Bruce King, vice president
and general manager of Surface Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "Our ability to produce a robust, high-quality, near-eye display
for the soldier has helped increase the effectiveness of not only the system, but ultimately of our soldiers."
The 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division Stryker Brigade Combat Team (5/2 SBCT) is next in line to receive the new, lighter-weight
ensembles. Land Warrior was first deployed to Iraq with the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, based in Ft. Lewis, Wash.
