Air Arabia selects Rockwell Collins to supply avionics for 59 aircraft

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 01, 2008) - Air Arabia has selected Rockwell Collins to provide a comprehensive package of communication, navigation and surveillance avionics for 59 new Airbus A320 family aircraft (44 firm plus 5 option aircraft are direct purchase; 3 to be leased from Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS); 3 to be leased from International Lease Finance Corp (ILFC); and 4 to be leased from AerCap). Deliveries of these aircraft are scheduled to be delivered from 2009 through 2013.

"Our selection by Air Arabia is a reflection of our track record in providing proven avionics solutions that use the most advanced technology for detecting weather hazards, increasing efficiency and overall situational awareness," said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager of Air Transport for Rockwell Collins. "Air Arabia's commitment to providing convenience and low cost, with the highest level of safety and service, will be further enhanced with the avionics solution we're providing for their new A320 aircraft."

Under the terms of the agreement, Rockwell Collins' baseline avionics package for the Airbus A320 family aircraft, featuring Rockwell Collins' award-winning WXR-2100 MultiScan™ Hazard Detection System, is among the avionics selected by Air Arabia. The MultiScan system is the first and only radar that analyzes and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric moisture content. It is a fully automatic, hands-free airborne radar system with more than four years of operational experience that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters, and provides optimal clutter-free weather.

Among the products selected by Air Arabia for both aircraft types is the Collins GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), an integrated unit that provides the aircraft's primary position, velocity and time reference, and enables precision landing capability.

Other equipment chosen by Air Arabia  includes Rockwell Collins' ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D High Frequency Data Radio, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, VHF-920 Very High Frequency Transceiver, LRA-900 Low-range Radio Altimeter, RDMi-743 Radio Distance Magnetic Indicator, VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Range receiver, TPR-901 Mode S Transponder, TTR-921 Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System, TRE-920 Directional Antenna, and Data Link.
