Texas Congressman Sam Johnson cuts ribbon on new Rockwell Collins lab

RICHARDSON, Texas (November 01, 2006) - Created to quickly deliver new network-centric technologies to warfighters, the Rockwell Collins Performance and Architectural Collaboration Environment (PACE) Laboratory was unveiled Wednesday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Third District Texas Congressman Sam Johnson said the PACE Lab is an asset to the military and Richardson.

"This laboratory will bring the latest technology to soldiers in the field and will ultimately help increase their effectiveness and enhance their safety," he said. "I am glad that Rockwell Collins has developed this lab in Richardson."

Rockwell Collins, headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a leader in aviation electronics and communications technology for military and commercial customers worldwide.

"We have applied our communications and networking expertise, coupled with advanced simulation capabilities, in the development of the PACE Lab to provide early validation of military communication, sensor and navigation system concepts," said Greg Churchill, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Rockwell Collins Government Systems. "This lab allows us to closely collaborate with our military customers and tailor solutions that fit their immediate and future needs."

Engineers in the PACE Lab simulate operational scenarios to speed development of network-centric solutions. Costs and risks are reduced because solutions are first validated in the lab environment instead of in the field. Once a solution is proven in the lab, it can then be implemented at a much lower cost with a higher level of reliability. The final result is a networked system that provides the warfighter with the right information at the right place at the right time.

Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) is a pioneer in the development and deployment of innovative communication and aviation electronics solutions for both commercial and government applications. Our expertise in flight deck avionics, cabin electronics, mission communications, information management and simulation and training is strengthened by 18,000 employees, and a global service and support network that crosses 27 countries.
