Lufthansa CityLine selects Rockwell Collins HGS-4200 for the Bombardier CRJ900
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 27, 2006) - Lufthansa CityLine (CLH) is equipping its fleet of Bombardier CRJ900s with Rockwell Collins' HGS-4200 Head-up Guidance System
(HGS®). The HGS will be installed on new aircraft as they are delivered.
Lufthansa CityLine currently operates a fleet of 36 CRJ200s and 20 CRJ700s. All are equipped with Head-up Guidance Systems
manufactured by Rockwell Collins.
Lufthansa became the first airline to take advantage of the low-visibility takeoff capability on a CRJ by taking off in 100M
visibility at Milan's Malpensa airport in January 2005.
"The CRJ family has served CLH very well. Part of the reason for this is the increased operational capability we get with
the Head-up Guidance System," said Klaus Froese, managing director of Lufthansa CityLine. "We have the flexibility to schedule
our airplanes anywhere in our network, knowing they have the best low-visibility operating capability available."
Rockwell Collins' HGS expands the operational capability of the CRJ900 by reducing the airplane's approved approach minima
from Cat II to Cat III, thereby reducing the decision height from 100 ft to 50 ft. and the Runway Visual Range (RVR) from
550M to 200M. Additionally, the HGS Low Visibility Takeoff (LVTO) capability reduces the minimum RVR required for takeoff
from 125M to 75M.
The HGS-4200 displays critical flight information in the pilot's forward field of view. Aircraft flight path and acceleration
symbols and command guidance appear overlaying the outside scene allowing precision hand-flown approaches, enhancing situational
awareness and improving aircraft energy management. Additional features include the display of runway remaining, tailstrike
avoidance and unusual attitude recovery symbology.
Lufthansa CityLine is Europe's largest regional airline, carrying more than 6 million annually to 72 destinations within Europe.
