EPA lauds Rockwell Collins for environmental commitment

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 03, 2005) - Rockwell Collins has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Performance Track Corporate Leader for its commitment to implementing programs that protect the environment.

This is the first time EPA has recognized corporate environmental leadership under its National Environmental Performance Track (NEPT) program.

“The Performance Track Corporate Leader designation recognizes companies for their strong environmental performance beyond current regulatory requirements,” said EPA Acting Administrator Steve Johnson. “This voluntary partnership program is based on the premise that government should complement its existing regulatory programs with new tools and strategies that not only protect people and the environment, but also capture opportunities for reducing cost and spurring technological innovation.”

EPA cited Rockwell Collins for continuously improving their environmental performance, along with that of their suppliers and customers. Other considerations included a strong record of compliance with environmental regulations; robust corporate management of environmental issues; past and future commitments to environmental performance improvement; and public outreach and reporting on environmental achievements.

“We’re proud that EPA has chosen Rockwell Collins to be among the first corporations designated as a leader under this environmental program,” said Rockwell Collins Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Clay Jones. “This honor reflects the commitment that our company places on reducing waste, increasing reuse and conserving energy.”

Rockwell Collins will be recognized at EPA’s Performance Track Annual Awards Dinner in Chicago on April 12.

Rockwell Collins became involved in EPA’s NEPT program with 4 charter facilities in 2000.  Today, ten Rockwell Collins facilities are part of this voluntary program that recognizes and encourages top environmental performers who go beyond compliance with regulatory requirements to attain high levels of environmental performance and management.

Examples of Rockwell Collins environment initiatives include:
• Green Communities grant program that helps fund environmental projects in the communities where Rockwell Collins operates.

• Rockwell Education Access to Computer Technology (REACT) Center refurbishes computer equipment for donation to schools and select non-profit agencies as an alternative to landfill disposal.

• Improving the environmental performance of suppliers by participating in EPA’s Green Suppliers Network focusing on improvements to achieve environmental and economic benefits.

• Participation in EPA’s Green Power Partnership including the purchase of 10,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy certificates each year, equivalent to a CO2 reduction of 13.8 million pounds.

Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) is a leader in the design, production and support of communications and aviation electronics solutions for government and commercial customers worldwide.  Additional information is available at www.rockwellcollins.com.
