Piaggio selects Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line 21

LAS VEGAS (October 11, 2004) - Piaggio Aero has selected Rockwell Collins' Pro Line 21 integrated avionics system for its Avanti P180, bringing advanced capabilities to the flight deck of this aircraft.

"Piaggio selected the Pro Line 21 system based on its proven performance, planned growth capabilities and improvements in life cycle costs.  We are excited to have been given the opportunity to bring to the flight deck the level of quality and performance that is commensurate with the standard of excellence of Piaggio's Avanti," said Denny Helgeson, vice president and general manager of Business and Regional Systems for Rockwell Collins.

Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line 21 avionics system integrates flight information into intuitive, easy-to-interpret menu formats. The system’s modular Integrated Avionics Processing System is smaller and lighter than previous-generation equipment, making it easy to upgrade or reconfigure functions and inputs as airspace requirements evolve.

The Pro Line 21 integrated avionics package for the Avanti P180 includes three 10- by 8-inch, high-resolution, liquid crystal adaptive flight displays. Additional Rockwell Collins content includes:

• The FMS-3000 provides advanced flight planning and navigation capabilities, including synchronized lateral and vertical flight plans, time and fuel planning and graphical map support.
• The GPS-4000A Global Positioning System sensors provide satellite navigation for
en route and terminal phases of flight, including the ability to perform GPS non-precision approaches.
• Pro Line 21 CNS communication, navigation and surveillance sensors support the transition from voice to data communications and enable operators to meet new regulatory and operating requirements.
• Dual AHS-3000 Attitude Heading Reference Systems feature new solid-state digital quartz gyro technology for improved reliability and a lower cost of ownership.
• TWR-850 Turbulence Weather Radar
• Dual-channel automatic flight control system
• The ALT-4000 Radio Altimeter
• Dual ADS-3000 Air Data Systems.

Optional equipment for the P180 includes Rockwell Collins’ Integrated Flight Information System (IFIS) enabling advanced capabilities including electronic charting, graphical weather and enhanced map overlays and VHF data link communication system.
