Rockwell Collins selected to provide avionics for Spirit Airlines

FARNBOROUGH (July 21, 2004) - Spirit Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins to provide avionics for its 35 A319 and A321 purchased and leased Airbus aircraft. Spirit has options for 50 additional airplanes.

Rockwell Collins’ GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) and its WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar are included in the avionics package for Spirit Airlines.

The GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver is an integrated unit that provides the aircraft’s primary position, velocity and time reference and enables precision landing capability. The advanced MMR also offers instrument landing system capability and high-integrity, satellite-based positioning for navigation and future landing functions. The system also offers growth to support microwave landing system capability and can meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

The WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar is a fully automatic radar that reduces pilot work load and enhances safety and passenger comfort by reducing unexpected turbulence encounters. MultiScan provides optimal weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.

Other Rockwell Collins equipment chosen by Spirit Airlines includes the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D High Frequency System, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, LRA-900 Low-range Radio Altimeter, TPR-901 Transponder, VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio and the VHF-920 Very High Frequency Transceiver.
