Rockwell Collins’ Airshow 21 featured on Bombardier Global 5000
FARNBOROUGH (July 18, 2004) - Rockwell Collins’ Airshow 21 integrated cabin electronics system is being unveiled today at the Farnborough Air Show onboard
Bombardier’s Global 5000™ intercontinental business jet. Initial flight testing will begin in September with certification
flight tests scheduled for October. Supplemental type certification of the system is expected in December 2004.
The Airshow 21 system offers the Global 5000, an advanced system architecture that supports a complete line of cabin electronics
centered on an operator’s specific requirements. The system features a redundant communications backbone, maximizing system
availability while providing digital distribution of information and allowing for easy installation of future upgrades.
Global 5000 passengers and crew will have control of nearly all aspects of the cabin environment through the Airshow 21 system.
Advanced functionality includes the latest in real-time business connectivity, information, entertainment and cabin management
capabilities.
Airshow 21 “global office” provides Global 5000 passengers with networked office capabilities in the air similar to those
they enjoy on the ground. The system’s Ethernet-based local area network (LAN) provides multiple users with “off-board” data
connectivity, as well as access to printers, fax machines and shared files. The system can be enhanced through the addition
of a wireless LAN permitting users to maintain network connectivity while moving about the Global 5000 cabin. The standard
Rockwell Collins SATCOM system and accompanying high-speed transceiver provide multiple voice and high-speed data channels
supporting simultaneous secure voice and data communications, including corporate e-mail and Internet access, anywhere in
the world. The system also supports flight deck operations in the emerging CNS/ATM environment.
Airshow 21’s entertainment features allow passengers to select and control multiple sources, including numerous VCRs, DVD
players, satellite TV and multi-disc CD changers. The system also supports advanced capabilities such as audio/video-on-demand
(AVOD). Airshow 21 integrates entertainment content from a variety of sources, including Rockwell Collins’ new Member Services
Center and satellite TV systems. As AVOD becomes available, digital movie and audio content tailored to meet passenger’s requirements
will also be provided.
Rockwell Collins’ Airshow 21 will also allow Global 5000 passengers and crew to manage the various environmental systems in
the cabin, galley and lavatory, including temperature, lighting, water and waste systems. A centralized maintenance function
collects and processes diagnostic data to facilitate simple, minimally invasive service and maintenance.
Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) provides design, production and support of aviation electronics and communications for government
and commercial customers worldwide. Additional information is available at www.rockwellcollins.com.
