Korean Airlines tabs Rockwell Collins for avionics package
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 01, 2004) - Korean Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins to provide avionics for nine new Boeing 777 aircraft with an option for two
additional airplanes.
Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Radar and GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver are included in the avionics package.
The GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver is an integrated unit that provides the aircraft’s primary position, velocity and time reference
and enables precision landing capability. The advanced MMR also offers instrument landing system capability and high-integrity,
satellite-based positioning for navigation and future landing functions. The system also offers growth to support microwave
landing system capability and can meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet
types.
The WXR-2100 Multiscan Weather Radar is a fully automatic radar that reduces pilot work load and enhances safety and passenger
comfort by reducing unexpected turbulence encounters. MultiScan provides optimal weather detection from the nose of the aircraft
to 320 nautical miles.
Other Rockwell Collins equipment chosen by Korean Airlines includes the SAT-906 SATCOM, ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder,
DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D High Frequency System, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, LRA-900 Low-range Radio Altimeter,
TPR-901 Transponder and the VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio.
