Rockwell Collins introduces new SATCOM system enabling high-speed data connectivity on a wider range of aircraft platforms

ORLANDO, Fla. (October 06, 2003) - Rockwell Collins introduces the SAT-6100, a new SATCOM system designed to provide a level of capability in high-speed satellite communications unmatched for a unit its size. The system will be installed as a baseline component of the integrated cabin electronics package on the Bombardier Global 5000.

“The SAT-6100 provides multiple voice and data communication channels for the flight deck and cabin in a small and lightweight package,” said Denny Helgeson, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional Systems for Rockwell Collins. “This system meets the requirements of a broad range of aircraft platforms, including providing high-speed Satcom to mid-size business aircraft.”

The SAT-6100 is comprised of the Collins SRT-2100 – a single compact unit – along with two Collins HST-2100 High-Speed Transceivers providing three Aero-I/H/H+ channels and two channels of Swift64 high-speed data service. The system is designed to be installed outside the pressurized vessel, preserving valuable cabin space, and has met rigorous testing to prove its operability in this harsh environment.

A new 50 Watt high-power amplifier improves system performance and allows simultaneous usage of two voice channels, two high-speed data channels, as well as one low-speed data channel for ICAO safety services providing Internet, e-mail, fax and digital phone service to the aircraft. Future functionality will include Inmarsat's BGAN capabilities data allowing transmission at speeds up to 432 kbps.

Proprietary software monitors and manages the power of all channels and pre-empts lower priority channels in favor of higher priority communications from the flight deck, ensuring compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s safety services.

The SAT-6100 interfaces with all Inmarsat-approved high-gain antennas using the ARINC 741 standard, including top- or fin-cap mounted antennas and the latest conformal antenna packing Aero-H capability in Aero-I size. In addition, the SAT-6100 can be used with any Inmarsat-approved intermediate gain antenna to accommodate Aero-I service. The system can also be integrated with a wide variety of cabin equipment for telephone, fax and PC data creating a flexible voice and data communication system capable of meeting all your mission needs. Current Collins SAT-5000 and SAT-6000 system operators can install the new SAT-6100 capabilities through a service bulletin upgrade.
