Horizon Air Equips Fleet with Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics Head-Up Display System

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 07, 2001) -  Seattle-based Horizon Air has ordered Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS® 4000 Head-up Guidance System series for installation on its fleet of Bombardier CRJ 700 aircraft. Horizon Air is the first airline to equip its entire fleet of aircraft with Flight Dynamics head-up displays, including the CRJ 700, Dash 8-100, Dash 8-200Q and the new Q400.

With the HGS®, the airline maintains an industry-leading schedule reliability record. Tom Gerharter, Horizon’s vice president of Flight Operations said, "We have come to rely on the operational and safety benefits of the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS® 4000 system. We won't buy airplanes unless they are equipped with HGS®."

The HGS® 4200 will be certified on the CRJ 700 for full-flight-regime operations including Cat IIIa approach and low-visibility take-off. Additional features include Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System display, windshear recovery mode, unusual attitude recovery mode and runway remaining display. The system will be raster capable and software loadable.

Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics has orders for more than 1,200 HGS® systems, with more than 400 options and follow-on orders expected to be exercised in the next few years. The system has accumulated over six million flight hours in revenue service.

Rockwell Collins, with headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, designs, produces markets and support communication and aviation electronics for commercial, military and government customers. The business employs approximately 17,500 people worldwide.
