Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics Head-up Guidance System Certified on Embraer ERJ 145

PARIS (June 18, 2001) - Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics Head-up Guidance System (HGS®) has been certified on the Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft by the Brazilian Centro Tecnico Aeroespacial, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Joint Airworthiness Authority.

The system is certified for full-flight-regime operations including Cat IIIa approach (50 feet Decision Height and 200 meters Runway Visual Range (RVR)) and low-visibility take-off (75 meters RVR). Additional features include Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System display, windshear recovery mode, unusual attitude recovery mode and runway remaining display.

Embraer offers the system as a factory-installed option. Airplanes equipped with the HGS® began delivering earlier this year.

According to Luiz Carlos Rodrigues, chief test pilot for Embraer, "The benefits of HGS®, in terms of improved situational awareness, are impressive. I think every ERJ operator will benefit from flying with HGS®."

Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics has orders for more than 1,200 HGS® systems, with more than 400 options and follow-on orders expected to be exercised in the next few years. The system has accumulated over six million flight hours in revenue service.

Rockwell Collins, with headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, designs, produces, markets and supports communication and aviation electronics for commercial, military and government customers. The business employs approximately 17,500 people worldwide.
