Rockwell Collins Introduces New 10.4” LCD Retractable Monitor for Boeing Single-Aisle Aircraft

IRVINE, Calif. (September 05, 2001) - Rockwell Collins has developed a 10.4-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) retractable monitor for Boeing single-aisle aircraft. The new LCD retractable monitor is a direct installation replacement for the Rockwell Collins 8.6-inch LCD retractable with no modifications required. Installations are to begin in the first quarter of 2002.

"This new 10.4-inch monitor incorporates LCD panel and video driver card technology to give the passenger a crisp and bright image with the widest viewing angle," said Graham Macdonald, vice president of marketing and strategic management, Rockwell Collins Passenger Systems. "This gives the airline greater flexibility in cabin configuration. And because it is compliant with Boeing standards, it can replace any similarly compliant airline monitors."

The LCD screens are part of PAVES(R), an overhead distributed in-flight entertainment (IFE) system that allows for automated, route specific playback of entertainment programming. The system allows airlines to tailor programming and branding, and to create product differentiation opportunities while minimizing costs.

The PAVES(R) development team continues to plan new and improved system applications and components. Some of these applications, such as the new 10.4-inch LCD retractable, the universal Audio Distribution System (ADS), and In-Seat Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) can be seen at the upcoming World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) annual conference and exhibition in Brisbane, Australia, September 11-14, 2001 at Booth #901.

Rockwell Collins Passenger Systems produces cabin management and IFE systems for over 100 commercial airlines around the world. The organization employs approximately 1,400 people at its facilities in Irvine and Pomona, California.

Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) is a world leader in the design, production and support of communications and aviation electronics solutions for commercial and government customers worldwide. The company employs a global workforce of 17,500 people and has estimated FY2001 sales of approximately $2.9 billion. Additional information is available at www.rockwellcollins.com.
