Rockwell Collins Announces High-Speed SATCOM Data Link
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 19, 2001) - Rockwell Collins has introduced a high-speed data communications capability for business aircraft. The capability is being
provided as part of Collins eFlight™, which improves situational awareness, productivity and connectivity by providing the
timely transfer of information between the flight deck, the cabin and ground infrastructure.
Designed as an enhancement to the Collins SAT-906 satellite communications system, the HST-900 High-Speed Transceiver will
provide 64 kilobits per second connectivity using the existing SAT-906 antenna and high-power amplifier. The system is equipped
with Ethernet, ISDN and RS-232 interfaces for maximum flexibility and allows for simultaneous use of high-speed data link
and Aero H/H+ services. Once installed, the system can be upgraded for new generations of high-speed data link through software
upgrades, minimizing the impact to the SAT-906 system.
Available in late 2002, the HST-900 will initially provide passenger e-mail and Internet access through the INMARSAT satellite
system and is provisioned for future Collins eFlight applications as they become available.
