Rheintalflug Orders Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics Head-up Guidance System for ERJ 145
PORTLAND, Ore. (October 10, 2001) - Austrian-based Rheintalflug has selected the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics Head Up Guidance System (HGS®). Rheintalflug has selected the HGS option for installation on its Embraer ERJ-145 fleet.
The HGS system will allow Rheintalflug to operate in low-visibility weather conditions including Cat IIIa approach (200M RVR)
and low-visibility takeoff (75M RVR). It will also allow enhanced Cat I approaches (down to 450M RVR) and full Cat II approaches
(300M RVR) on some Type I runways.
The HGS system provides the added safety benefit of full-time, head-up flight path awareness in all phases of flight. Through
the holographic combiner, the pilot views critical flight information overlaying the real-world view. Aircraft flight path
and acceleration symbols appear as overlaying the outside real-world view, enhancing situational awareness, improving energy
management, approach stability and touchdown precision.
"Rheintalflug will now be able to offer the same level of schedule reliability as our major partners," says Rolf Seewald,
Rheintalflug's president, "and we will have the added benefit of full-time head-up situational awareness for our pilots."
Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics designs, manufactures and certifies Head-up Guidance Systems in Portland, OR, and has orders
for more than 1700 HGS® Systems.
