Shandong Airlines Selects Rockwell Collins Avionics and In Flight Entertainment System for Boeing 737NG Fleet
SINGAPORE (February 26, 2002) - Shandong Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins avionics and PAVES® inflight entertainment system for its new Boeing 737NG
aircraft beginning delivery in November 2002. The selection of Rockwell Collins integrated communication, navigation, sensor
package for the ten aircraft includes Rockwell Collins new Multiscan™ Weather Radar and TCAS-900 Traffic Alert and Collision
Avoidance System.
The Collins WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar enhances safety by the need for manual intervention. The automatic performance
of radar scan patterns using multiple-tilt angles and data processing reduces pilot workload and provides more complete information
for weather hazard avoidance. The Multiscan radar optimizes short and long-range weather detection at all times without requiring
pilot adjustment of the radar tilt, and alerts flight crews during takeoff and approach of potentially dangerous windshear.
The PAVES inflight entertainment system will provide a complete video entertainment system, including the Programmable System
Control Unit (PSCU) and Video Reproducer Unit (VRU). Also included is the new 10.4” Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) retractable
monitor, the largest single-aisle LCD offered in today’s market featuring a crisp bright image with the widest viewing angle.
Shandong Airlines first installed Rockwell Collins PAVES system on their CRJ-200 regional jets equipped with 8.4” retractable
LCD and 8mm VRU.
The PAVES system is the first programmable audio/video entertainment system for single-aisle aircraft. The system is currently
installed on over 500 aircraft, and can be enhanced to reduce power consumption and weight, and add new features and functionality.
These enhancements include the new 10.4-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) retractable monitors; a completely redesigned user
interface that allows for simple one-touch operation; in-seat DVD; and backCHANNEL™ interactivity, providing passengers access
to interactive entertainment and games.
