Rockwell Collins Recognized for Achieving CMMISM Level 3 Systems and Software Engineering Rating; Company an early adopter
of government-recognized program
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 24, 2002) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE:COL) Government Systems' business has been recognized by the Software Productivity Consortium for achieving
Level 3 maturity in accordance with the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model - Integrated (CMMISM).
By achieving Level 3 maturity, Rockwell Collins has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to process improvement in order to
provide products and services to its customers that are high quality and cost effective. As an early adopter of the model,
the company was able to focus process improvement initiatives to implement CMMI capable processes within 12 to 18 months of
the model's initial release in November 2000.

Prior to this achievement, the company demonstrated Level 3 maturity under SEI's Software CMM for more than five years. Rockwell
Collins key Government Systems business segments - Communications, Navigation and Integrated Applications - participated in
the assessment.
The SEI developed CMMI to enable the U.S. Department of Defense to more readily and objectively assess the full range of capabilities
of its industry participants. It is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The CMMI model provides a framework for improving processes organizations
use to develop and deliver products for customers.
