Rockwell Collins First in Industry to Receive Baseline Design Review Approval for SAASM Operational Software with No Platform
Restrictions; Company First in Industry to Produce GPS Products Equipped with SAASM Operational Software
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 25, 2002) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL), a leader in Global Positioning System (GPS) solutions, is the first in the industry to receive
Baseline Design Review (BDR) approval for its Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) operational software with
no platform restrictions.
Additionally, the company is the first in the industry to produce GPS products equipped with SAASM and the operational software.
Collins' PLGR III (Precision Lightweight GPS Receiver) and MPE-S (Miniature PLGR Engine - SAASM) passed the Department of
Defense host application evaluation allowing the SAASM operational software to be loaded.
These accomplishments have been achieved in advance of the October 2002 DoD deadline mandating that all GPS equipment be outfitted
with SAASM modules including the operational software. This software will provide users with additional features that include
black keys (unclassified) and full SAASM Security Critical Functions.
The Collins SAASM is a single, tamper-resistant multi-chip security module, which can be combined with other components and
software into a complete GPS receiver.
The company was the first in the industry to receive security approval for production of the SAASM module that incorporates
a next-generation Precise Positioning Service (PPS) security module. Additionally, Rockwell Collins passed the DoD Security
Baseline Review and has received certification for its in-house facility that treats the SAASM-based GPS receivers with a
tamper resistant coating to ensure classified military GPS data is safeguarded.
