Rockwell Collins certifies Head-up Guidance System on Bombardier CRJ700
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 01, 2002) - Rockwell Collins has received Federal Aviation Administration certification of its HGS® 4200 Head-up Guidance System for use
on the Bombardier CRJ700. Joint Airworthiness Authority certification of the system is expected to follow. Horizon Air and
Lufthansa CityLine participated in the certification effort.
Developed by Rockwell Collins' Flight Dynamics business, the HGS will expand the operational capability of the CJR700, allowing
Category III approach and landing down to 600 ft /200 M runway visual range (RVR), and lower-than-standard Category I approaches
down to 1600 ft / 450 M RVR.
Horizon Air provided the flight test aircraft, flight crew and related support for the flight test program, which included
148 HGS approaches into several airfields in the Northwest United States.
Lufthansa CityLine, through its CST Simulator and Training facility in Berlin, provided a CRJ700 simulator and related support
for the certification effort. The certification program required 1200 simulated HGS approaches to be flown in a wide variety
of environmental conditions.
Launch customers Brit Air and Horizon Air will begin installing the system on their CRJ700 fleets this fall.
