Rockwell Collins Recommended for Additional ISO 14001 Certification;Cedar Rapids Facility Passes Environmental Management System Audit

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (November 07, 2002) - Rockwell Collins has been recommended for another facility addition to its ISO 14001 multi-site certificate by auditors Det Norske Veritas (DNV) after successful audit results at its C Avenue facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last week.

DNV cited Rockwell Collins' recycling program and communication of environmental expectations to suppliers as noteworthy accomplishments in its report, which has been submitted to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB), the U.S. certification body for the international environmental standard. The headquarters location of Rockwell Collins and the largest facility on the company's ISO 14001 certificate, the Cedar Rapids facility includes more than 5,000 employees and covers approximately 2.5 million square feet. It will be the twelfth Rockwell Collins facility to achieve ISO 14001 certification through third-party audits of the company's environmental management system (EMS). Other Rockwell Collins facilities on the multi-site certificate include: 35th Street - Cedar Rapids, Bellevue, Coralville, Decorah, and Manchester, Iowa; Wichita, Kan.; Atlanta, Ga.; Irving and Richardson, Texas; Pomona, Calif.; and Renton, Wash.

ISO 14001 is a voluntary, international standard that specifies requirements for an EMS, structures company operations to promote employee environmental responsibility and stresses continual improvements of all company aspects related to the environment. Rockwell Collins received an EPA 2002 Pollution Prevention Award for Environmental Excellence from Region 7 last month in Kansas City, Mo. Rockwell Collins' Coralville, Iowa, facility was recognized for implementing a new packaging process which eliminates air emissions and solid and hazardous wastes associated with the previous foam packaging process. The EPA's Pollution Prevention Program emphasizes the elimination or reduction of wastes at the source of generation.
