Rockwell Collins wins first international contract for projection display technology
SAN JOSE, Calif. (July 10, 2003) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL), a leader in advanced military aviation electronics and communications, has entered into an agreement
with the Shimadzu Corporation of Kyoto, Japan, to provide a technical data package and design support for the co-development
of a projection display unit for the F-15J. This is the first international contract awarded to Rockwell Collins for its projection
display system.
Kaiser Electronics, a Rockwell Collins business, will act as the lead in proving the technical data package and the design
support.
The display unit for the F-15J will be a 4.5-by-4.5-inch reflective micro Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) projection-based smart
display. The display design will be a jointly developed, highly ruggedized integration of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)
projector components and technologies benefiting from Kaiser Electronics' extensive experience in Active Matrix Liquid Crystal
Display head down displays and optics capabilities developed for head up and helmet mounted displays and Shimadzu Corporation's
optical expertise derived from their experience on designing head up and helmet mounted displays.
