General Dynamics-Rockwell Collins Team to Provide Computing Infrastructure for Army's Future Combat Systems Program

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 17, 2003) - A General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems-Rockwell Collins team has been selected to enter negotiations toward a contract to provide the Integrated Computer Systems (ICS) for the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems will serve as the team lead and provide overall program management. Rockwell Collins will share approximately 50 percent of the program scope.

The selection was made by the Army Lead System Integrator team of Boeing and Science Applications International Corporation. The ICS component has a potential estimated value of $215 million and is expected to run through 2009.

FCS is a family of advanced, networked air- and ground-based systems for use by the Army's Objective Force. FCS will include manned and unmanned platforms for providing improved intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR); battle command; and real-time sensor-to-shooter linkages.

The ICS will be the command, control, communications, computing and ISR infrastructure used by all FCS platforms. The ICS will provide computer processing, networking, information assurance, and data storage resources necessary to support the network-centric operations of the FCS System of Systems. Primary operations include communications, sensors, maneuver support and sustainment, battle command and control, training, and information assurance.
