CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 02, 2003) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE:COL) and Sandia Corp. have entered into a memorandum of understanding to explore the application of new technologies to the aerospace and defense market.

"We believe this relationship has the potential to leverage our complementary capabilities to bring technology to the market faster,'' said Dr. Barry Abzug, Rockwell Collins senior vice president of Corporate Development. "We look forward to collaborating with Sandia on key national security challenges."

The memorandum calls for both companies to share their knowledge and capabilities. Through this process, Rockwell Collins and Sandia will collaborate in selected technology and product development and manufacturing efforts in which both could benefit.

Pace VanDevender, vice president for Science-Technology & Partnerships at Sandia National Laboratories, noted, "Rockwell Collins places an extremely high value on advanced research and development in the pursuit of transformational technology solutions, as does Sandia." He added, "The cooperation between their science and technology organization with ours will be of great benefit to the nation."

Sandia National Laboratories is a multi-program laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration. Sandia has major research and development responsibilities in national security, energy and environmental technologies, and economic competitiveness.
