Rockwell Collins selected to provide Primary Flight Control Computer for CSeries aircraft
FARNBOROUGH (July 20, 2010) - Rockwell Collins has been selected to supply the Primary Flight Control Computer (PFCC) and the Attitude Heading Computer
(AHC) for Bombardier Aerospace's fly-by-wire (FBW) flight control system on Bombardier's CSeries commercial aircraft.
"Bringing Rockwell Collins' PFCC demonstrates our ability to advance mission-critical technology to the 100-149 passenger
commercial market that this aircraft will serve," said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional
Systems for Rockwell Collins.
The FBW flight control system uses electronic means, rather than traditional mechanical means, to control the aircraft during
flight. This allows for the introduction of a range of computer controlled enhancements to benefit the pilot, passenger and
airline/operator. This patented Rockwell Collins PFCC allows hosting of the highest criticality level aircraft functions and
provides an enabling platform to execute complex aircraft control laws, optimize aircraft fuel efficiency, improve passenger
safety, host Category IIIa and IIIb Autoland algorithms, and enhance overall passenger ride comfort.
The PFCC is an evolution of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line FusionTM avionics system which was selected by Bombardier for the
CSeries aircraft in July 2009.
The CSeries aircraft is a family of aircraft designed specifically for the 100-to 149-seat market. Rockwell Collins' innovative
avionics solutions will provide CSeries aircraft operators with high dispatch reliability and enhanced operational efficiencies
well-suited for the optimized mission capability of the CSeries aircraft family.
