Rockwell Collins distributes $1 million for nonprofit flood recovery

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (June 11, 2009) - Nineteen nonprofit organizations have been selected to receive grants from the Rockwell Collins Flood Recovery Fund.

Rockwell Collins established its Flood Recovery Fund after the historic June 2008 floods that extensively damaged parts of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and other Eastern Iowa communities.

Grants totaling $1,000,800 will help flood-impacted nonprofit organizations pay for capital expenses and rebuilding efforts. The amount represents half of the $2 million that the Rockwell Collins Charitable Corporation set aside last summer for flood recovery efforts. Additional grants will be made available as recovery plans move forward.

This second round of grants is in addition to the $709,000 awarded in October 2008. That amount was raised from donations by employees, retirees and friends of Rockwell Collins.

"As we approach the first anniversary of the June 2008 flood, it's important to recognize all the recovery efforts that have been accomplished to date - and to fully comprehend the work that lies ahead to restore and revitalize our community," said Rockwell Collins Chairman, President and CEO Clay Jones. "Our company remains committed to assisting in the flood recovery process and these grants will ensure that our nonprofit organizations can continue providing a variety of important services to the community."

The funding for the second round of grants was awarded through a competitive process. Eligible organizations included nonprofit 501(c)(3) and public/government agencies (e.g., schools, city-owned entities, etc.) operating in Linn and Johnson counties. The organizations applied for funding to address needs as they relate to capital expenses, rebuilding, and/or relocation support.
