Rockwell Collins seeking Green Communities Grant Program proposals
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (January 21, 2009) - Rockwell Collins is accepting proposals for its 2009 Green Communities Grant Program. Launched four years ago, the program
helps fund environmental projects in communities where the company operates. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 27,
with grant winners being announced in conjunction with activities on or around Earth Day, April 22, 2009.
Volunteers remove invasive Brazillian Pepper trees in preparation for planting native foliage in the Indian River Lagoon
on Florida's east coast. The project is one of 134 Rockwell Collins Green Communities projects that have funded since 2004.
Eligible projects must improve the environmental condition of the community. In addition to traditional conservation and restoration
projects, the Green Communities program will also emphasize the rebuilding of communities through restoring environmental
habitats that have been damaged by natural disasters.
"Natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes and wildfires have affected the communities in which we operate over the last
several years and we want to do our part to help restore the natural habitat in those areas," said Cindy Dietz, manager of
community relations at Rockwell Collins. "With 134 projects funded since 2004, Green Communities has established a track record
of making a difference. Credit goes to our employees around the globe who have taken ownership of the program by participating
in and promoting these environmental initiatives."
Grant awards will range from $500 to $2,500. Only projects conducted or sponsored by qualified non-profit organizations or
public/government entities are eligible.
A grant review committee will judge project applications based on criteria including:
- Tangible environmental benefits of the project
- Sustainability of the project benefits
- Participation in the project by Rockwell Collins employees and/or retirees
- Completion of the project within the calendar year of the grant award
- Agreement to participate in publicizing the grant and the completed project
