San Jose employees raise funds for Chinese earthquake relief

The deadliest and strongest earthquake to hit China in three decades caught the attention of Rockwell Collins employees around the world, but employees at our facility in San Jose, Calif., were especially concerned about the May 12 event.

"We have a lot of Asian employees here in this facility, and some of them have family members back in China," said Yen Pham, Human Resources generalist in San Jose. "We wanted to do something right away to help the nation."

Employees took immediate action and began donating their own money and asking for financial support from family members and friends to support a nation where thousands of buildings were destroyed and thousands of citizens were killed.

While fund-raising efforts were informally organized, employees were able to raise nearly $4,648, which they donated to the American Red Cross for relief efforts.

"It was really, really something," said Pham. "I don't think we've ever raised that much money in our facility in such a short amount of time. It was a good feeling to see our employees pulling together to do something special."
