Rockwell Collins employees put the 'fun' in fundraiser

Rockwell Collins employees at our facility in Manchester, Iowa, have reason to celebrate.

Throughout the summer, employees participated in several fundraisers, which raised $4,458 for our company's annual Hands Across America campaign. Including employee pledges, our Manchester facility raised a total of $23,355.

Candy bars and magnets shaped like flip-flops were given to each employee as a way of saying thanks for their dedication. Ninety-six percent of Manchester employees participated in this year's events.

"Our employees feel strongly about supporting each other and our community," said Lynn Halweg, a quality production lead in Manchester. "We live in a small community and, as long as someone is helped, that's all we need."

Holding several raffle events was a fun and creative way in which our employees raised money. A dinner and movie package, a $100 shopping spree, gift certificates, and two nights in the Grand Harbor Resort in Dubuque, Iowa, were among the items raffled. One employee generously donated a pontoon cruise, and employees also were able to bid on four hours of paid vacation time.

A themed basket auction also was a facility favorite. This year, the Hands Across America Committee judged the baskets on categories, such as most fun, most creative, and most like the theme - Margaritaville. The winner's name was placed on a $50 donation they were asked to give to the charity of their choice.

According to Halweg, Manchester's success was a result of their team spirit and sense of fun.

"We put a lot of emphasis on teaming here," said Halweg. "We all really come together and that makes fundraising fun."
