A series of bake sales featuring cakes, cookies and more helped "Team Rockwell Collins" in southern California raise more than $5,000 to help fight the war against breast cancer.

A group of 16 employees from our facilities in Irvine and Tustin laced up their walking shoes recently, and earned a Top 100 finish in the annual Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure.

"I think everyone that participated got an emotional high from the experience," said Terri Ramos, a principal manufacturing program specialist in Tustin. "When you see all of the people that benefit from the event - it can be very uplifting."

One of the largest fundraising events dedicated to fighting breast cancer in Orange County, the Race for the Cure led about 35,000 participants along a 5-kilometer course around Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Of those participants, 2,000 were breast cancer survivors.

"This experience is one that we'll remember forever," said Ramos. "And, we are already excited about next year."

Those who took part in the event displayed commemorative, pink signs either in memory of those who have died from breast cancer, or in celebration of those who have survived.
