It's not every day that His Royal Highness The Duke of York visits Rockwell Collins. But employees in our Reading, England, facility had a chance to talk with Prince Andrew during his recent visit to Rockwell Collins (UK) Ltd.

"Meeting His Royal Highness was a great opportunity not only for me, but for our company," said Paul Gibson, a technical director at our facility in Reading. "We were able to raise the profile of what we do here at Rockwell Collins, and he was very interested in learning about the products that we develop in the UK."

Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, visited in his role as Special Representative for UK Trade and Investment (UKTI). During the visit, he observed demonstrations of our flight operations and communications management system, the Link-16 beyond-line-of-sight data link system and military global positioning system (GPS) capability.

In addition, he viewed portions of the facility involved with the maintenance and repair of avionics and in-flight entertainment systems.

According to Gibson, the Prince was impressed with our eFlight information management solution, which is designed to help increase airline operational efficiencies.

"He was especially interested in how our airline customers operated before they had our solution," said Gibson, who gave a brief demonstration of our eFlight HERMES product. "He was surprised to learn how much manual effort went into some of the flight operation processes prior to eFlight."

Founded more than 50 years ago, RCUK focuses on military products, eFlight, and service and support of avionics and in-flight entertainment systems (IFE).
