    Breakaway Coupling

The Breakaway Coupling prevents costly damage to the aircraft service panel by separating or "breaking away" should servicing personnel inadvertently drive away from the aircraft prior to disconnecting the service hose. The patented Breakaway Coupling is spliced into the 3/4" Potable Water Fill and 1" Lavatory Rinse/Fill service hoses between the servicing truck and the aircraft connecting coupling. Upon a pull force of approximately 100 pounds, the tabs of the internal Shear Ring break, thus allowing the coupling to separate.

    BACK

    Roll Extrusion Methods

  • Strengths of Roll Extruded solid-solution alloy pipes are usually greater than those of conventional manufactured pipe/tube because of the fine grain size achieved through cold working plus recrystallization.
  • Roll Extrusion, as a net process, achieves final pipe dimensions through metal displacement.

Rockwell Collins Rollmet manufactures seamless pipe using two methods of Roll Extrusion:

  • Internal Roll Extrusion: The starting hollow is placed inside a one-piece, cylindrical die ring. The rollers inside the starting hollow are displaced radially outward until they bite into the inside diameter of the hollow surface a controlled amount. The hollow outside diameter remains constant while the rollers produce a thinner wall with a corresponding increase in I.D. and hollow length in a single pass.
  • External Roll Extrusion: External roll extrusion utilizes a mandrel over which the hollow is placed. Two annular die rings are brought into position on the hollow. The mandrel and hollow are rotated while the die rings progress axially through a series of passes. This simultaneously reduces wall thickness and O.D. while the hollow grows in length. The I.D. remains constant.

Levels of Service: Repair, Overhaul, and Rebuild -- FAA Certificate YF3R995L

Rockwell Collins Electromechanical Systems (RCEMS) offers three levels of service at its service centers:

  • Repair - The repair, per the Component Maintenance Manual (CMM), of a specific discrepancy identified by the customer and then returned in a flight worthy condition with supporting documentation and warranty. If a part is sent to RCEMS which is beyond economical repair, RCEMS will inform the customer. The customer may then elect to have the part overhauled, scrapped, or returned to them.(See Teardown Charges.)

  • Overhaul - The rework of an aircraft component removed from normal service per the applicable Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) and then returned in a flight worthy condition with supporting documentation and warranty. If a part is sent to RCEMS which we are not able to overhaul due to its poor condition, RCEMS will inform the customer. The customer may then elect to have the part rebuilt, scrapped, or returned to them.(See Teardown Charges.)

  • Rebuild - The refurbishment of an aircraft component originally manufactured by RCEMS, returned from normal service to new part tolerances, condition and performance, and returned in an "as new" flightworthy condition with supporting documentation and warranty. Parts originally manufactured by RCEMS will be upgraded to the current revision when the core allows.

    Lever Ball Lock

There are three types of lever ball locks:

  • Lever Cap - a flip-over cap closing mechanism is attached to the panel.
  • Lever Ball Lock Cap - a cap is attached to the panel by a lanyard. Its opening and closing mechanism is engaged with a flip-up top.
  • Quarter Turn Ball Lock Cap - a cap is attached to the panel by a lanyard. The operating mechanism is engaged with a quarter turn of the cap.

    Lever Lock Cap

  • Expandable convoluted plug prevents in-service leakage
  • Redundant sealing design provides the highest reliability
  • Fits on existing lavatory service panels

    Liquid Level Measuring System (LLMS)

Rockwell Collins Electromechanical Systems has developed a completely new, non-intrusive system of sensors that continuously detect the lavatory waste tank level. The LLMS is a system of small sensors that determine the weight of a waste tank, and consequently the relative fullness of the tank. This system consists of forward and aft load cell brackets and a Logic Control Module (LCM).

  • Non-intrusive system provides high reliability
  • Prevents human contact with waste
  • Decreases aircraft turnaround time by eliminating unnecessary waste tank servicing
  • Load Cell brackets directly replace existing tank mounting brackets

    Load Cells

  • Non-intrusive system provides high reliability MTBF (50,000 flight hours per tank assembly)
  • Eliminates health concerns--non-intrusive system prevents contact with waste
  • Low weight: provides considerable weight savings over alternate systems
  • Low cost: lower acquisition and operating costs over alternate systems
  • Redundancy in load cell arrangement replaces the need for two separate sensing systems
  • Low maintenance costs: no sensor cleaning or inspection require (no schedule maintenance)
  • Eliminates unnecessary tank inspection and cleaning--tank "build-up" can be identified

  • Expandable convoluted plug design eliminates unnecessary components
  • Existing lever lock cap assembly can easily be converted with frangible kit
  • Ultimate solution for all FAA-AD's applicable to Blue Ice.

    Roll Extrusion (Commercial)

    BACK

    Roll Extrusion Methods

  • Strengths of Roll Extruded solid-solution alloy pipes are usually greater than those of conventional manufactured pipe/tube because of the fine grain size achieved through cold working plus re-crystallization.
