SAT-2200
Satellite Communications Systems

OVERVIEW

The Rockwell Collins ARINC 781 SAT-2200 complies with the latest industry standard for Inmarsat SATCOM capability for classic Aeronautical, Swift64, and SwiftBroadband operation.

Each SDR Channel Card can perform failure reversion to the required Cockpit Safety (Classic Aero) Function. The Rockwell Collins SATCOM system is designed to maintain communications without pilot intervention during all flight phases. Handover between satellites and spot beams is accomplished automatically, based on preferences contained in the Secure ORT as defined in ARINC 781.

The normal configuration would give preference to the voice and data safety services provided by satellites and ground stations supporting Classic Aero services. Second priority is to maintain SwiftBroadband services, with the capability to fall back to Swift64 operation in the event of a SwiftBroadband outage.

KEY OWNER/USER BENEFITS
  • Latest SDR Technology With Failure Reversion
  • Valid for both Cockpit and Cabin communication
  • Worlds Smallest Full Featured Cockpit and Cabin SATCOM
  • Worlds Lowest Drag, High Performance, ARINC 781 PIM Approved Antenna
  • Compact Solution: the SATCOM embeds the ARINC 741 HPA, SDU, RFU and HST functions in a single 6 MCUs unit.
  • Modular Solution: the Rockwell Collins solution is also a product line able to fit installations with or without external FMPA.

HARDWARE DESCRIPTION

The key elements of Rockwell Collins ARINC 781 SATCOM system are:

  • The Satellite Data Unit (SDU) SRT-2200
  • The SDU Configuration Module (SCM)
  • The external Flange Mounted Power Amplifier (FMPA)
  • The HGA-2100 high gain antenna
  • The DLNA-2100 diplexer

SAT-2200 INTERFACES

The Rockwell Collins SATCOM fully complies with the Attachment 1.5 of the ARINC 781:

  • Fully compliant with the form factor (Att 1-5)
  • Fully compliant with the connectors layout (Att 1-5A / Att 1-5B / Att 1-5C)

The SAT-2200 provides the following interfaces:

POWER AMPLIFIER — A MODULAR DESIGN TO FIT MULTIPLE ARCHITECTURES

The SAT-2200 has been designed as a product line able to fit a large number of aircraft types. Consequently, it has been designed to work with its own internal HPA or with an external Flange Mounted Power Amplifier (FMPA). The purpose of the FMPA is to provide a solution to overcome the cable loss issues where the SDU is in general greater than 1.5 dB ( 35 feet) away from the DLNA. In most SATCOM installations, the external FMPA is not needed, as the maximum allowed cable loss between the SDU (with internal HPA) and antenna subsystem can be met.

External High Power Amplifier (HPA)

SCM (SDU CONFIGURATION MODULE)

The SCM provides a location to store / retain the following elements:

  • The SDU configuration information (ORT parameters)
  • The UMTS USIM Card (required only for SwiftBroadband service, not required for Swift64 and Classic Aero).

The USIM card and the ORT parameters will remain with the aircraft whenever the SDU is changed.

Consequently, installation of a new SDU during a maintenance operation is made easier as the swapping does not require to reload the ORT parameters and to manipulate the USIM card.

The SCM fully complies with the ARINC 781 Attachment 1.6.
