OVERVIEW
The Miniature PLGR Engine-SAASM (MPE-S) is based on the new Rockwell
Collins Selective Availability/Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM). SAASM encapsulates
all classified data and signal processing into one tamper-proof module. SAASM
provides jamming and spoofing protection for US and allied forces operating
in hostile environments. The MPE-S is the US Army Standard Embedded GPS Receiver
for the Ground-Based GPS Receiver Application Module (GB-GRAM) program. It
is intended for use in multiple DoD, Federal Civilian and Foreign Military Sales
(FMS) platforms requiring real-time precise GPS data. The small size and
features of the GB-GRAM standard make it attractive for Command and Control,
munitions guidance, handheld computers, vehicles and other platforms seeking
to integrate a GPS capability.
DESCRIPTION
In addition, the Rockwell Collins SAASM includes Proven capabilities of the NightHawk 12-channel GPS signal
processor True All-In-View navigation of up to 12 GPS satellites Advanced correlator engine (ACE) turbo-charges the engine
for accelerated Direct-Y code acquisitions Next-generation security architecture provided by the key
data processor (KDP- II ) Unclassified-when-keyed operation Black cryptographic key capable For backwards compatibility, this new version of the Rockwell Collins
MPE has been designed to provide continued support to current users of the
MPE embedded GPS receiver. Customers will recognize and appreciate the continued
use of the same familiar 80 pin I/O connector and robust MMCX RF connector.
Every effort has been made to keep the signal pin-out of the I/O connector
compatible with previous versions of the MPE. While the physical size has
been reduced to 2.45" x 3.4" x 0.6", the connector location remains
the same relative to the edge of the board. This allows for economical upgrade
to an embedded SAASM-based receiver. A new dual frequency RF front end allows continuous track of both the
L1 and L2 GPS satellite frequencies. Even when turned off, a precision High
Accuracy Low-power time source (HAL) runs continuously to allow rapid acquisition
of the GPS satellites when the receiver is turned on. Of course, all this
capability requires only a single 3.3-volt power source.
