KEY FEATURES/USER BENEFITS
DESCRIPTION
Rockwell Collins’ MDM-2X02N is an advanced tactical
data link modem which combines all functionalities required for a Link 11
Data Terminal Set (DTS) and for a Link 22 Signal Processor Controller (SPC)
into a single product. TheMDM-2X02N can be provided as simple L11 DTS, single
or dual-channel L22 SPC or L11/L22 modems. The MDM-2X02N data link modem family offers three equipment versions
specifically designed for airborne, ground and ship borne applications. The MDM-2X02N product line family includes: MDM-2402N: a VME type card set MDM-2002N: a 19" standard rack MDM-2202N: a 1/4 ATR standard chassis All versions can be upgraded with L22 or L11 modem functions by loading
SW.
CONFIGURABILITY
Depending on the configuration, several functionalities are possible.
One MDM-2X02N allows: Simultaneous handling of two links among the four Link 22
HF-FF, HF-EPM, UHF-FF, and UHF-EPM channels Simultaneous handling of one link among the four Link 22 HF-FF,
HF-EPM, UHF-FF, and UHF-EPM channels and one link among the two Link 11 HF-FF,
UHF-FF channels. These configurations can be set up via the front panel or via the remote
control interface.
CAPABILITIES
Link 22 SPCThe MDM-2X02N implements the Link 22 Signal Processor Controller (SPC)
functions. When configured as a full SPC, the MDM-2X02N can manage two L22
channels. For a full Link 22 configuration, two MDM-2X02 units will operate
simultaneously on the four channels. Its front panel as well as its remote
control interface, provide data on Link22 network status, errors detected. Platforms operating on two Link 22 channels will only require one MDM-2X02N
unit. | Link 22 Systems | Standards | Link

or remotely (RS-232 compatible) via its control interface. Control software
for Windows® 2000/NT operating system PC compatible computers is available. Link 11 Split Site CapabilityTo support Link 11 installations where the Tactical Data System (TDS)
computer and the radio equipment are located at separate sites, the MDM-2002N
has a split site interface and supporting features. One MDM-2002N is to be
installed on each site and interconnected by a digital link which may be used
to pass tactical data and control information between both MDM-2002N units. Comprehensive Built-In-TestModem operation and maintenance are enhanced by built-in automatic performance
monitoring and fault isolation circuits. When primary power is first applied,
a self-test is automatically initiated to verify operational status of the
modem. During operation, the processors continue to perform background diagnostics.
Self-test can also be initiated via the local/remote control interface. Detected
faults are identified at the front panel and in subsequent status messages
output at the control interface. | Interfaces | | | MDM-2x02N | | Link-11 Tactical

The interface towards the crypto module can be either NTDS (MDM-2002N
or MDM-2402N), or ATDS. In addition to the audio interface to the HF or UHF radios, the MDM-2X02N
offers an RS-232 interface to exchange Link 11 over a SATCOM network. The MDM-2X02N supports network management and data transmission over
one Link 11 network using simultaneous operation. | MDM 2x02N Operational Applications | | Station modes | Net

TBMDM-2X02 TEST SET
The TBMDM-2X02 test set is dedicated to the MDM-2X02N modem maintenance.
It enables the connection with the following modem versions: MDM-2402N ATDS and NTDS: VME version, MDM-2002N ATDS and NTDS: rack 19 with control panel, MDM-2202N Aiborne version (cylindric connectors). The test procedure consists in activating an MDM-2X02N integrated test
either with an external "strap" (for the MDM-2402N version) or
a "dip switches" configuration (for the MDM-2202N version). Error
detection for board failure is correlated with the total number of impulses
received matching a dedicated code. Additional testing is done to determine
both audio (power supply and form) and ATDS (power supply and pulse bandwidth)
signal features.
