The LF-2040 is a 1-kW automatic HF line flattener for the frequency range of 1.6 to 30 MHz. It is capable of matching a load VSWR of up to 3:1 to the 50-ohm impedance of an associated power amplifier.


DESCRIPTION

The line flattener is a tuned impedance matching network used in both the transmitting and the receiving paths of an associated HF radio. It provides maximum power transfer from solid state power amplifiers to coax fed antennas with 3:1 SWR or less. The impedance match also improves the sensitivity of an associated receiving system that is operating on the same frequency. Optionally receive signals can be bypassed around the tuned network for operations where transmit and receive frequencies are widely separated.

The line flattener is entirely digital. The load impedance is analyzed by a controlling microprocessor. Then netowrk tuning elements are switched into the proper configuration. This tuning method permits rapid and accurate matching of the feed line, typically completing the operation within 1 second.

The LF-2040 is a member of the URG-III product line of HF communications equipment, designed for use with either the PA-2204 or PA-2220A. It is normally mounted near the associated power amplifier. The LF-2040 prime power and control signals are supplied from the associated power amplifier equipment.
