OVERVIEW

The GPS Embedded Module (GEM) product family represents a truly flexible approach to modular GPS. All GEM products share the same form factor and primary interface greatly reducing the expense of upgrading to new functions and features.

DESCRIPTION

To simplify the basic software integration, the GEM primary interface is via Dual Port RAM utilizing well-known ICD-GPS-059 and ICD-GPS-155 data. In addition, HAVE QUICK, DS102, DS101, RS-422 Instrumentation and 1 pulse-per-second input/output are also included as standard interfaces.

All GEM products offer full P/Y code performance in a standard SEM-E module for virtually any application. Current applications include manned and unmanned airborne platforms, ground vehicles and missiles. The ability to operate either as a stand-alone GPS receiver or integrated with Inertial or Doppler sensors, Mission Computers and Flight Management systems provides maximum flexibility for platform installation.

The entire GEM family offers superior position, velocity and time accuracy over the full range of dynamics encountered in manned and unmanned airborne, ground and munitions applications. GEM receivers are standard fits in many inertial navigation systems as well as Flight Management and Mission Computer systems.

Available in 12-channel and 24-channel variants, GEM products exist to support a wide array of requirements. Functions and features are continually added to an already vast list of capabilities and user configurable software options. For a complete list of GEM functions and features contact your local Rockwell Collins representative.

Prior to placing an order with Rockwell Collins, buyer shall provide written authorization from NAVSTAR GPS Joint Program Office (JPO) authorizing buyer to procure modules containing the PPS-SM and multi-channel AOC from the seller for the subject program. In addition, buyer is required to comply with the Precise Positioning Service Host Application Equipment Implementation Guideline.

These guidelines and the written authorization should be requested from the JPO at:

International buyers should go through appropriate MOD COMSEC channels to procure the PPS-SM and Nighthawk DSP/AOC or SAASM modules. Questions concerning the COMSEC FMS process should be directed to the above address.

GEM V
Supporting both NAVWAR and Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) requirements, the Collins GEM V module is a 12-channel, all-in-view, dual frequency, SEM-E GPS receiver. GEM V incorporates Rockwell Collins' third generation of Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) and is designed in accordance with the GPS "Receiver Application Module Guidelines" (GRAM-S).

Building upon the GEM legacy begun in 1990, the GEM V receiver incorporates numerous advanced features. All-in-view satellite tracking for optimized geometry and satellite drop-out immunity. Fault Detection and Exclusion (FDE) per DO-229 providing navigation solution integrity. Switchable SPS/PPS function to facilitate civil airspace interoperability. Carrier phase measurement outputs enabling precision navigation solutions.

To resist the effects of jamming, the GEM V module incorporates field proven techniques used on all Rockwell Collins receivers including advanced software algorithms, dual frequency (l1/L2) operations, fast direct-Y acquisition, and inertial aiding.

Operating as an embedded module or as a stand alone receiver, the GEM V flexible I/O supports open systems architectures. Industry standard interfaces including Dual-Port RAM (parallel) or RS-422 (serial) in accordance with ICD-GPS-155, plus a RS-422 instrumentation port, a RS-232 PLGR Hot Start, and various discrete signals. Antenna interfaces support AE-1, GAS-1, and both active and passive FRPA installations.

GEM VI
The GEM VI is the latest addition to the GEM family of products. In addition to all the features offered by the GEM V, the GEM VI offers 24-channel, all-in-view, dual frequency operations, a very fast Direct Y capability.

A variant of the GEM VI supports a digital interface enabling the use of a high performance Anti-jam antenna electronics unit. Through this feature, the GEM VI supports up to 16 simultaneous beams greatly enhancing the ability to operate in threatened environments.

For detailed information on GEM VI contact you local Rockwell Collins representative.
