OVERVIEW
The 253M-4A Emergency Panel is a four-switch panel that provides the
crew with rapid, automated, single-switch action control over several emergency
communication radio and IFF functions. It also provides single-switch zeroize
of mission sensitive data.
DESCRIPTION
The 253M-4A contains dedicated locking switches for communication emergency,
IFF emergency, or zeroize (guarded) switch requirements. The communication
switch also disables both the auxiliary guard receiver and all receiver squelches. The IFF emergency switch causes the transponder to respond with emergency
code 7700 independent of the status of the MIL-STD-1553B multiplex data bus.
The zeroize switch clears all codes, presets, and data bases. The unit requires 5 V dc at 0.90 amps to light the edgelit panel. This panel
emits NVIS green A with a spectral radiance that is compatible with pilot's
night vision goggles. The appropriate output discretes are grounded when the operator activates
the panel switches, but each is diode isolated to prevent an external ground
signal on the panel's output from inadvertently zeroizing mission data.
