The RIU-4000/4100 Radio Interface Unit is a member of the Pro Line 21 CNS family of products that feature state-of-the-art digital signal processing technology, digital audio, a consolidated tuning/data/audio bus, comprehensive maintenance software, software data loading and data link communication management. The Pro Line 21 CNS products set new standards for size, weight and power in the business and regional aircraft market. They retain the same form factor as the current Pro Line II and Pro Line 4 products (3.3 inches high, 14 inches long), but having reduced widths, allow size reductions of up to 50 percent and weight reductions of up to 35 percent. These products are also designed and tested to meet the more stringent DO-160D environmental requirements for helicopters and composite body aircraft.

The RIU-4100/4110 provides data concentration and audio management for the Pro Line 21 and Pro Line Fusion CNS family of products. The RIU-4000/4010 combines the data/audio concentration features of the RIU-4100/4110 with the data link communications management function of the CMU-4000.

The RIU-4100/4110 is the foundation of the Collins Advanced Radio Suite. It links the radio sensors through a common I/O and data manager which provides the interface to the remainder of the aircraft system and integrates a full-complement avionics package, taking advantage of all the communication management functions and capabilities of new radios.

The RIU-4100/4110 provides the following audio management functions:

• The radio interface, signal level control and mixing function for all aircraft flight deck audio sources and sinks
• The SELCAL function to alert the crew when voice traffic destined for their aircraft is being received
• Synthesizes the audio alerting tones and messages in response to commands from the aircraft alerting and monitoring system

The RIU-4100/4110 provides the following data functions:

• High-speed ARINC 429 connections with each of the new radios and low-speed ARINC 429 connections with legacy radios
• Interface between the radios and the rest of the aircraft via high-speed ARINC 429 buses

The RIU-4000 combines the capabilities of both the RIU-4100 and the CMU-4000.
