fully integrated system Terminal and en route ADI display modes eliminate unnecessary
information Airspeed and trend displays Integrated system architecture offers extensive reversionary
capabilities Improved integrated system diagnostic capability minimizes
the need for line test equipment Full-sky ADI and three-dimensional runway provide a more realistic
view of the outside world Multiple-mode EHSI provides dual course arrows, waypoints,
weather radar and sensor source selection on a single display MFD provides a shared data information window without disrupting
ADI/HSI display modes Two-, three-, four- and five-tube configurations available 5 x 5-inch and 5 x 6-inch formats available Compatible with FCS-85 series Digital Flight Control Systems
and AHRS-85 system Compatible with EGPWS for bolt-on applications that utilize
GPSs and on board global terrain databases to provide pilots with a picture
of the terrain in front of them
OVERVIEW
The EFIS-85B and EFIS-86B Electronic Flight Instrument Systems combine
Electronic Attitude Director Indicator/Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicators
(EADI/EHSI) with a center panel Multifunction Display (MFD) to provide a fully
integrated flight deck display system. The EADI has a 50 percent larger earth/sky
representation for terminal and en route formats than the conventional five-inch
electromechanical instrument. The EHSI combines multiple display formats with
weather radar and built-in NAV source selection for simplified coordination of
all navigation and weather avoidance tasks. The MFD augments the EADI/EHSI
displays by providing the pilot and copilot with additional navigation, weather
avoidance, data management and reversionary functions.
DESCRIPTION
The EFIS-85B/86B is comprised of a family of components that can be
configured to meet various flight deck display applications. The system components
are: CHP-86B/85D Course Heading Panel
The CHP-86B/85D provides course and heading select functions, selection
of time-to-go, ground speed, elapsed time and wind.
DCP-85G Display Control Panel
The DCP-85G provides EHSI display sensor control, EHSI display mode
control, EADI and EHSI display dimming and EADI radio altitude decision height
set capability.
DSP-85B Display Select Panel
Alternate to DCP-85G and one CHP-86B for flight deck where reduced panel
space is required. Requires external dimming and stopwatch controls.
DPU-85N Display Processor Unit
The DPU-85N provides the necessary deflection and video signals for
up to two EFD-85s. Contains aircraft systems I/O interface and comparator
warning functions.
DPU-86N Display Processor Unit
The DPU-86N provides the necessary deflection and video signals for
up to two EFD-86s. Contains aircraft systems I/O interface and comparator
warning functions.
EFD-85 Electronic Flight Display
The EFD-85 provides a multicolor 5 x 5-inch CRT
instrument display of an EADI or an EHSI with a lighted inclinometer.
EFD-86 Electronic Flight Display
The EFD-86 provides a multicolor 5 x 6-inch CRT
instrument display of an EADI or an EHSI with a lighted inclinometer.
MFD-85B Multifunction Display
The MFD-85B provides a multicolor CRT instrument display of weather
radar, pictorial navigation map, page data, waypoint definition, display of
multiple waypoints and remote data.
MPU-85N Multifunction Processor Unit
The MPU-85N provides the necessary deflection and video signals for
the MFD. Similar to the DPU, except for the expanded I/O capability for a
second set of aircraft systems.
MPU-86N Multifunction Processor Unit
The MPU-86N provides the necessary deflection and video signals for
the MFD. Similar to the DPU, except for an expanded I/O capability for a second
set of aircraft systems.
Both stroke and raster scanning techniques are used to provide large
area color background for weather and distinct alphanumerics and symbols with
high brightness. Mode select and display control functions are located on
the display bezel (for the MFD-85B). EADI
The EADI display provides an ADI presentation that can include the following
(with defined sensor inputs):
Pitch and roll attitude Steering commands (single or dual queue) Vertical deviation (glidescope) Localizer deviation Autopilot mode annunciation (analog, digital) Radio altitude Decision height Marker beacon annunciation Fast-slow deviation Indicated airspeed Trend vector VNAV Cat II comparator logic Rising runway Microwave landing system EHSI
The EHSI display has two basic modes: full compass rose and compass
sector. The full compass mode presents compass rose similar to existing electromechanical
instruments. Information available in this mode includes the following (with
defined sensors inputs):
True/magnetic heading Selected heading Selected course Navigation data source annunciation Lateral deviation To/from Distance to station waypoint Ground speed, time-to-go, elapsed time Bearing pointer (VHF omnidirectional radio range, automatic
direction finder, etc.) Vertical deviation (vertical navigation or global positioning
system) Weather radar return information (four color, path athenuation
compensation alert) Cat II comparator Wind vector Map of sector mode
OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
The EFIS-85B/86B provides system operational capability in the event
of the failure of a system element. The following paragraphs describe this
capability with reference to any operational differences that may be required. DCP-85G Display Control Panel Failure
In the event of a DCP-85G failure, an external switch can be actuated
that will cause the entire system to be controlled by the opposite side DCP-85G.
Display brightness for the applicable EADI and EHSI remains under control
of the failed DCP-85G. For analog systems, the FCS mode annunciation is lost
for the failed DCP-85G side.
DPU-85N/86N Display Processor Unit Failure
In the event of a DPU-85N/86N failure, an external switch can be actuated
that allows the MPU-85N/86N to provide the control to the affected EADI and
EHSI. Since the MPU-85N/86N has access to the DCP-85G controlling the failed
DPU-85N/86N, no degradation in EADI or EHSI performance occurs. When the MPU-85N/86N
replaces a DPU-85N/86N, the MFD-85B is removed from the EFIS. However, the
EHSI can still display weather radar information.
EFD-85/86 Electronic Flight Display Failure
In the event of an EFD-85/86 failure, an external switch can be actuated
to cause either the EADI display to transfer to the EHSI in composite format
or the EHSI to transfer to the EADI to form the same composite format. An
optional strap allows the EADI to be transferred unchanged to the EHSI, and
the EHSI to be transferred to the MFD-85B. A lighted inclinometer is provided.
MFD-85B Multifunction Display Failure
In the event of a MFD-85B failure, there is no backup capability for
the display. The NAV and weather modes are available for display on the EHSI
when operating in SECTOR or RDR modes.
MPU-85N/86N Multifunction Processor Unit Failure
In the event the single MPU-85N/86N fails, external switching of the
digital bus lines is required to maintain cross-side data on either side EADI
or EHSI. Backup drive capability to the EADI and EHSI is removed if the MFD-85B
fails.
