KEY OWNER/USER BENEFITS Versatile formats allow the displays to be used interchangeably
as a Primary Flight Display, MFD or EICAS display Larger display size, 6 x 7 or 7 x 7, enhances crew efficiency and situational
awareness Primary Flight Display format includes: attitude, airspeed,
vertical speed and navigation plus TCAS resolution advisories Multifunction Display format includes: navigation maps, weather
radar, TCAS traffic and aircraft maintenance data EICAS format includes: critical engine and system status data
recording and display as needed Compatible with EPGWS, which utilizes GPSs and on-board global
terrain databases to provide pilots with a picture of the terrain in front
of them
OVERVIEW
The Collins EFD-4000 Electronic Flight Display product family provides
high quality 7 x 6 EFD-4076
and 7 x 7 EFD-4077
integrated display units. The EFD-4000 utilizes very large scale integration
packaging techniques to combine the symbol generator and the CRT into a single
display unit.
DESCRIPTION
The EFD-4000 operational definition can be broken down into two distinct
functions, Electronic Flight Instruments System (EFIS) and Engine Indication
and Crew Alerting System (EICAS). EFIS
The EFIS typically contains four large color displays and two display
control panels. Each Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) is described below.
Pilot PFD Primary Flight Display Pilot MFD Multifunction Display Pilot DCP-4000 Display Control Panel Copilot PFD Copilot MFD Copilot DCP-4000 The pilot PFD displays attitude, lateral navigation/compass, flight
control and primary air data (altitude/airspeed/vertical speed) functions.
The PFD receives data bus inputs from input/output concentrators, Integrated
Avionics Processing System (IAPS), Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System
(TCAS) receiver/transmitter, inertial reference units and air data system.
The PFD provides a data bus output to the IAPS and pilot DCP. The pilot MFD displays lateral navigation/compass, radar, TCAS, flight
management (map/summary) and diagnostic information. The MFD also provides
a reversion backup for the left side PFD or the EICAS if that display fails.
The MFD receives the same data bus inputs that are applied to the left side
PFD. It also receives input buses from weather radar, EICAS control panel,
EICAS Data Concentrator Units (DCUs), Maintenance Diagnostic Computer (MDC)
and Flight Management Computer (FMC). The MFD provides a data bus output to
the IAPS and pilot DCP. The pilot DCP-4000 controls the left side PFD and MFD displays. This
panel selects display formats and left side lateral navigation parameter/sources.
The DCP receives data bus inputs from the left side PFD, MFD and weather radar
panel. The DCP switch data and the weather radar control panel data are output
to the on-side and cross-side PFDs and MFDs. The left side display reversion switch allows the pilot to select PFD
or EICAS backup display on the pilot MFD. Remote reversion switches allow
the pilot or copilot to select either Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS),
DCP and air data source inputs. The remote maintenance switch selects the
maintenance display on the MFD 1 or MFD 2. The copilot PFD displays attitude, lateral navigation/compass, flight
control and primary air data (altitude/airspeed/vertical speed) functions.
The PFD receives data bus inputs from input/output concentrators, TCAS receiver/transmitter,
IRS and ADS. The PFD provides a data bus output to the IAPS and copilot DCP.
The copilot MFD displays lateral navigation/compass, radar, TCAS, flight management
(map/summary) and diagnostic information. The MFD also provides a reversion
backup for the right side PFD or the EICAS if that display fails. The MFD
receives the same data bus inputs that are applied to the right side PFD.
It also receives input buses from weather radar, EICAS control panel, EICAS
DCUs, MDC and FMC. The MFD provides a data bus output to the IAPS and copilot
DCP. The copilot DCP-4000 controls the right side PFD and MFD displays. This
panel selects display formats and right side lateral navigation parameter/sources.
The DCP receives data bus inputs from the right side PFD, MFD and weather
radar panel. The DCP switch data and the weather radar control panel data
are output to the on-side and cross-side PFDs and MFDs. EICAS
The EICAS typically contains two large color displays, EICAS control
panels, two or three EICAS DCUs and the lamp driver unit. Each LRU is described
below.
Pilot Primary EICAS Display ED-1 Copilot Secondary ED-2 ECP-4000 EICAS Control Panel Pilot DCU-4000 EICAS Copilot DCU-4000 EICAS Optional third DCU-4000 EICAS DCP LDU-4000 Lamp Driver Unit Pilot ERU-4000 EICAS Routing Unit Copilot ERU-4000 The primary EICAS (ED-1) displays the primary engine indication instruments
and crew alerting messages. The primary display is a fixed format of engine,
oil, fuel and gear data. The left side ED receives data bus inputs from the
EICAS DCUs and EICAS control panel. The left side ED provides a data bus output
to the IAPS data concentrators. The secondary EICAS (ED-2) displays various data pages and serves as
a backup to the primary display. The pages are selected using the ECP-4000.
The right side ED receives data bus inputs from the EICAS DCUs and EICAS control
panel. The right side ED provides a data bus output to the IAPS data concentrators. A remote EICAS reversion switch allows the pilot or copilot to select
either display. Selecting one display blanks the other tube and allows data
pages to be selected on the remaining display using the ECP panel. The ECP-4000 is used to select the EICAS data page displays. The panel
pushbuttons select data pages. The ECP applies this information on the data
buses to both EICAS displays and both MFDs. The pilot DCU-4000 collects and formats aircraft data for display on
the EICAS. The DCU performs the flight data acquisition functions for the
flight data recorder. The crew alerting logic is processed in the DCU. The
DCU receives high- and low-speed ARINC 429 buses,
analog inputs and discrete inputs from the engines and other aircraft systems.
The data inputs are concentrated and processed for transmission on ARINC 429
buses. The DCU outputs engine data to the displays; maintenance, diagnostic
and aircraft data to the IAPS data concentrators; annunciator lamp data to
the Lamp Driver Unit; aircraft system data to the flight data recorder and
data link management unit. The copilot DCU-4000 collects and formats aircraft data for display
on the EICAS. The DCU performs the flight data acquisition functions for the
flight data recorder. The crew alerting logic is processed in the DCU. The
DCU receives high- and low-speed ARINC 429 buses,
analog inputs and discrete inputs from the engines and other aircraft systems.
The data inputs are concentrated and processed for transmission on ARINC 429
buses. The DCU outputs engine data to the displays; maintenance, diagnostic
and aircraft data to the IAPS data concentrators; annunciator lamp data to
the LDU; aircraft system data to the flight data recorder; and data link management
unit. The optional DCU-4000 performs the same functions as described. The LDU-4000 is a dual-channel lamp driver unit capable of driving up
to 120 annunciator lamps. Channels 1 and 2 receive digital buses from all
the DCUs. The buses contain lamp activation words from the DCUs. Channels
1 and 2 are identical and the outputs from each side are tied together (OR
logic). If one channel lamp sink fails, the other channel lamp sink will provide
the annunciator function. The LDU monitors the lamp sinks to verify correct
function and outputs the lamp sink states on a digital bus to the DCUs. The ERU-4000 are junction boxes for the DCUs. The ERU splits each input
signal to three output pins. The pilot ERU routes left side airplane data
and the copilot ERU routes right side airplane data.
